The SUNY Ulster Technical Support Specialist is responsible for ensuring that all college computer technology is up to date and working as effectively and efficiently as possible.  This indivudal holds a personal and professional stake in ensuring SUNY Ulster’s technology provides the best possible support for the teaching and learning efforts of faculty and students at all campus locations.  Support Specialst will maintain consistent, year round, clear communication with faculty to understand their changing needs, and to keep them informed of changes to the teaching environment.

 

Job Description Overview:

Responsible for all aspects of design, specification, configuration, installation, maintenance, updating and troubleshooting of computer technology including:

- All classroom and computer lab technology

- All college-owned computers

- All classroom printers including plotters and 3D printers.

 

Tasks include but are not limited to:

  • effectively scheduling updates and deployments according to class schedules and room availability.

  • respond to all classroom / student use technology requests quickly and effectively.

  • work directly with faculty and staff in the development of images and specialized tech for each classroom / lab.

  • train faculty in the use of standard hardware and software in labs. 

  • develop and deploy lab computer images with input from instructors / staff

  • stay up to date on available deployment and maintenance technologies

  • ensure ongoing student access to college owned computers. 

  • make necessary changes in accordance with the necessities of the part of term.

  • work with faculty to develop purchasing and deployment plans for new equipment and software.  

  • maintain a complete and up to date a complete inventory of hardware and software.

  • work with Associate Support Specialists to ensure that all user based technology problems are addressed quickly and effectivtly 

 

Position Requirements:

  • Ability to schedule and manage own workflows and projects that may involve others

  • A proven proficiency in maintaining both PC and Macintosh hardware.

  • A proven proficiency with Microsoft Windows and current Mac OS’s. 

  • Familiarity with the utilization of Virtual Machines in Hyper-V to build images.

  • Experience using both Microsoft Deployment Toolkit and Windows Deployment Services.

  • Experience using an MDM for deploying MacOS Images.

  • A professional history of successful customer service. 

  • A means of personal transportation for use between the main site and satellite campuses

  • Ability to lift 50 pounds.
