Summary Description
Develop, document, test, and debug new and existing software systems and/or applications to meet clients' needs.  Participate in full development life cycle including requirements analysis and design.  Analyze code to find causes of errors and revise programs as needed.  Assess user needs to determine technical requirements.  Support, maintain, and document software functionality.


Description of Job Duties

  • Consult with clients to gather information about program needs, objectives, functions, features, and input and output requirements as needed.
  • Analyze, define, and document requirements for data, workflow, logical processes, hardware and operating system environment, interfaces with other systems, internal and external checks and controls, and outputs.
  • Write and maintain technical specifications.
  • Develop and maintain plans outlining steps and time tables for developing programs.
  • Research and evaluate software and hardware to assist in programming or to use as program platforms.
  • Customize and code screen layouts, graphical user interfaces, printed outputs, and interfaces with other systems.
  • Convert designs and specifications into computer code.
  • Compile code into programs correcting errors detected in compile process.
  • Create test transactions and run tests to find errors and confirm programs meet specifications.
  • Analyze code to find causes of errors and revises programs.
  • Consult with client to prototype, refine, test, and debug programs to meet needs.
  • Write and maintain documentation to describe program development, logic, coding, testing, changes, and corrections.
  • Write documentation that describes logic, installation, and operating procedures.
  • Review documentation written by others that describes installation and operating procedures.  
  • Provide technical assistance by responding to inquiries from others regarding errors, problems, or questions about programs.
  • Train end users or technical support staff to use programs.
  • Install and test programs at client site.
  • Monitor performance of programs after implementation.
  • Provide troubleshooting of systems integrated to ERP
  • Provide user support for ERP and integrated systems


Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience



  • Experience with Ellucian’s Banner ERP for higher education institutions.
  • Higher Education background and knowledge
  • Has obtained functional knowledge in multiple modules/disciplines in ERP applications, related 3rd-party products, and/or other systems.
  • Excellent time-management, planning and interpersonal skills.
  • Effectively manage scope and customer expectations on individual assignments.
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with end-users, gain their confidence, understand their functional and operational needs and translate them into viable technical solutions. Superior verbal and written skills, encompassing complete understanding of the English language with exceptional communication skills. Strong organizational and leadership skills.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, or governmental regulations. Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals. Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to interpret a variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.
  • Ability to research and analyze existing programs and processes based on existing code, which may not have technical documentation available.
  • Experience and  working knowledge of SQL/PLSQL
  • A strong understanding of creating, implementing, and debugging stored procedures in Oracle.
  • Experience in working with large and complex Oracle Relational Database Systems required.  Extensive working knowledge of Linux and Windows Server operating systems
  • Requires a minimum Bachelor’s degree. Advanced degrees strongly preferred

Desired Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Experience with C programming, HTML, Java scripting, and OBIEE
  • Experience with 3rd party tools such as TOAD, Argos, etc.
  • Project Management experience a PLUS
  • Experience with Redhat Linux
  • Experience with Windows Server 2003 and above
  • Comfortable researching and analyzing existing processes that might be subject to process improvements
