Key Responsibilities:

The Strategic Business Advisor (SBA) works in partnership with Account Executives to engage clients in proactive planning processes (Strategic Alignment Plans) to encourage increased utilization of Ellucian software, SaaS and Cloud solutions.


  • Facilitate information gathering activities (online surveys, usage questionnaires, executive meetings and departmental user meetings) used to identify current state administrative challenges and associated quantifiable impacts. Excellent note-taking ability is a must.
  • Evaluate and consolidate information gathered into an easily consumable and presentable format, using an iterative approach to validate findings and impacts and ultimately lead to the development of prioritized recommendations that address the client’s most important needs.  Deliverables include agendas, reports, and executive-level presentations. Excellent business writing skills are required.
  • Support account executives to achieve annual sales quotas, based on corporate guidelines and targets.
  • Provide input to the development of account management strategies for clients in the assigned territory.
  • Work with clients to identify areas to leverage Ellucian’s solutions to align with institutional strategic goals.
  • Work collaboratively with Account Executives to improve partnerships and expand relationships outside of IT with clients in the territory.
  • Contribute to revising standardized tools and templates used in Strategic Alignment Planning and help to ensure consistency of process and deliverables across regions.
  • Represent Ellucian at a variety of events including Regional Users’ Groups and conferences. 
  • This job requires at least 50% nationwide travel in the assigned territory.



  • A Bachelor's degree or higher business, technology or a higher education related field is required. 
  • Five or more years of sales experience, or other relevant direct client contact or sales consulting required.
  • Broad knowledge about higher education administrative processes with experience specific to the Ellucian Colleague and Banner ERP solutions preferred.
  • Experience presenting to C-level audiences about recommended software, SaaS, Ellucian Cloud and professional services solutions.
  • The ability to plan, strategize and execute a sales strategy as part of a larger team.
  • Ability to develop detailed plans, including incorporation value-selling and business justifications, to address client issues and areas of priority, concern or disconnect.
  • Exceptional communication and relationship building skills supported by good follow-through and strong time management skills. 
  • Business writing samples will be required as part of the interview process.
