Position Responsibilities:


Location:  Positions will be out of Ellucian's Reston, VA Headquarters

We are looking for two interns to join our CloudOps Platform team during the Summer 2019 term to engage on exciting projects within the field of Cloud technologies and DevOps.  If you are looking for a challenging learning opportunity to assist in the development of key projects ranging from automation, Infrastructure as Code, and Enterprise Cloud transformation this may be an ideal position.

Position Responsibilities include:

  • Support the day to day Operations of a high performing Cloud Operations team, operating within Amazon Web Services (AWS)
  • Research and assist in developing automation tools and methodologies to support enterprise cloud operations 
  • Provide assistance in the administration and tuning of Linux (RHEL, CentOS, and Ubuntu) as well as Windows based EC2 instances
  • Develop code supporting operational enhancements and projects supporting cloud transformation and scalability
  • Participate in projects supporting team initiatives and integration into the DevOps pipeline
  • Manage tasks both operationally as well as from a project standpoint within sprints and associated project tracking tools such as JIRA
  • Work alongside Cloud / DevOps professionals for guided yet extremely hands on projects
  • Examples of potential projects includes but may not be limited to:
    • Developing additional self-healing orchestration for complex systems with health check issues
    • Integration of existing self-healing into wide net orchestration using industry standard tools and DevOps principles
    • Creating tools that refine existing processes to maximize availability and scalability in the cloud
    • Conversion of manual processes into self-service portal based automation actions
    • Investigating automation of Auto Scale setups
    • etc.


Position Requirements:


Candidates should have the following:

  • Currently enrolled in a college-level degree program in Computer Science, MIS, Information Technology, or equivalent
  • Displayed practical use or experience with at least one of the following (does not need to be work experience):
    • Cloud Computing Platforms:  AWS for example
    • Scripting or code language (bash, Python, JSON, C#, etc.)
    • Orchestration Tools (Jenkins, Bamboo, etc.)
    • Agile / DevOps methodologies
    • Linux or Windows Server/AD
    • Networking concepts
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Solid communications skills 
  • Displayed teamwork capability
  • General displayed enjoyment and passion for technology

Other Items that are not required but desired:

  • Participation in extra-curricular technology-based projects, groups, or events
  • Evidence of contribution to open-source code or projects (code created, reviewed, comments made, etc.)
  • Direct experience with AWS
  • Certifications achieved
