Position Overview

The data model Product Manager leads the continued expansion of a comprehensive, cohesive data model for higher education that defines how data is shared with and between Ellucian software applications. Working with product managers, business analysts, and other subject matter experts, the Product Manager elicits and defines the data requirements and use cases for connecting Ellucian applications with other Ellucian applications, third party software, and custom solutions.


  • Gather requirements and requests from multiple internal development teams, Ellucian partners, and customers.
  • Work closely with members of the Product Management team to coordinate a cross-solution backlog for API development that aligns with strategic, partner, and technical currency initiatives.
  • Break down high-level features and requirements into more detailed features, epics, and user stories, to shape the development team's backlog.
  • Provide vision and direction to the data model development team as they implement requirements and use cases throughout the model development lifecycle, negotiating & resolving conflicting priorities and requirements with development team counterparts (Scrum Master and Development Manager).
  • Coordinate cross-domain product management team collaboration to ensure that development efforts, timeframes, and associated impacts are communicated and understood.
  • Serve as a primary point of contact for customers, internal teams, and partners with questions about the data model.
  • Monitor communication channels to assist customers, partners, and teams with understanding the data model.
  • Collaborate with and educate product managers and development teams as they begin to develop support for data model entities.
  • Participate in cross- and extra- organizational training sessions to educate Ellucian teams, partners, and customers on new data model features and standards.


  • Bachelor’s degree in relevant field combined with five years of experience in higher education or higher eduction technology
  • Experience in Agile Scrum Agile Development Methodology with a focus on supporting daily scrum, sprint planning, sprint reviews, retrospectives and consistently improving maturity in agile practices required
  • Experience influencing a cross-functional matrixed product team
  • Exceptional written and oral communication skills
  • Self-starter who understands how to effectively deal with ambiguity and with changing priorities
  • Strong analytic skills required, including the ability to interpret customer needs into application and operational requirements
  • Great team player – must have the ability to deal with conflicts, manage negotiations, provide feedback and drive needed change management practices with the objective of achieving the required outcomes  
  • Flexibility in work hours will be an expectation with the role requiring interaction with a global team - customers and other key stakeholders
