Accounts Receivable Specialist – Job Description

Ellucian is seeking an Accounts Receivable Specialist to work collaboratively with the both the Corporate Accounting team and Collections team. Reporting to the Senior Corporate Accounting Manager, you will be primarily responsible for ensuring that incoming cash receipts are properly applied to customer and other general ledger accounts for our global operations.  The Accounts Receivable Specialist must have strong analytical skills, organizational and communication skills.  In this role you will be required to work both independently and collaboratively with team members to ensure our customer and financial ledgers are accurately stated.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Participate in day to day cash application activities by leveraging bank feeds and various other bank reports to apply cash receipts to customer and general ledger accounts.
  • For complex cash applications, ensure that documentation attached to the financial document is high quality.
  • Work closely with collections team to help resolve any cash application issues such as underpayments, overpayments, and unclear remittance instructions.
  • Throughout the month, prepare cash metrics to help ensure Collections team is on track to meet monthly goals
  • Attend weekly meetings with Collections team to help ensure that everyone is on the same page with respect to key incoming cash receipts, and what invoices they should be applied to.
  • Support Corporate Accounting team with cash and accounts receivable reporting on annual international statutory audits.
  • Support quarterly consolidated external audits as needed
  • Drive continuous process improvements and innovations within the department as well cross-functionality.
  • Perform multiple tasks and ad hoc projects as assigned.



  • Bachelor’s degree with a business focus (i.e. accounting, finance, management, etc).
  • 1-3 years relevant experience.
  • Experience in the computer software/information technology industry is preferred.
  • Basic understanding of US GAAP accounting concepts
  • Business experience and financial or analytical background with understanding of contractual terms and conditions
  • Articulate with excellent verbal and written communication skills.
  • Advanced proficiency with MS Office (Word, Excel).
  • Ability to think creatively, highly driven, energetic, and self-motivated. Highest standards of ethics, accuracy and precision; highly organized. 
  • Ability to prioritize and manage various tasks with potentially competing priorities.
  • SAP experience is a plus.
  • Ability to work both independently and with employees of the organization in an open office setting and in a collaborative environment.
