The Senior Systems Administrator provides tier two and three support, at multiple sites for the College of Southern Nevada.  The Office of Technology Services, Infrastructure Services team provides first-class IT Support and customer service to faculty, staff, and students.  We ensure that all members within the OTS organization and all College of Southern Nevada stakeholders are receiving professional and courteous interactions.

 

Job Description:

  • Performing operating system upgrades in the Microsoft Windows environment after developing an upgrade plan and reviewing the plan with the supervisor.  This includes but is not limited to implementing, maintaining, and enhancing Systems Center Configuration Manager and Active Directory (‘AD’) environments
  • Configuring, deploying, and supporting Fortinet Security Solutions (FortiGate, FortiADC, FortiSIEM, and FortiAnalyzer)
  • Installing new software and software upgrades for all layered products after presenting a plan for user testing and migration to the new product level
  • Monitoring system performance and proposes software updates or parameter changes to enhance system performance; develop a plan for testing, implementing, and measuring the results of system performance
  • Maintaining required operating system security on all centralized Windows machines.
  • Developing, installs, maintains and test software to provide regular backup and restore processing for all centralized computers
  • Assisting, as needed, in-network printer setup, configuration, and troubleshooting
  • Working with hardware and software customer support service organizations as required for solving problems
  • Sharing technical and functional expertise with other members of the team as required.
  • Documenting various processing procedures for use by other IT staff members
  • Maintain a high level of technical knowledge and expertise through a continual education process, both formal and self-taught
  • Performs related work as required

 

Job Requirements:

  • A Bachelor’s degree with at least five years prior experience as a Systems Administrator; or six to seven years of professional experience demonstrating equivalent knowledge
  • VMware Virtualization Software
  • Windows Server Administration processes
  • Office 365 Administration Experience
  • Experience and/or training which provides the following knowledge, ability, and skill:
    • Considerable experience in Systems Administration function with a focus on Systems Center Configuration Manager
    • Experience in testing and installing third-party software products.
    • Experience in systems security including an understanding of audit systems, enhanced user security, and Internet security issues.
    • Experience in performing system tuning, both at the operating system level and the application level.
  • Excellent time management, planning, and interpersonal skills
  • Effectively manage scope and customer expectation on individual assignments
  • Must have the ability to work effectively with end-users, gain their confidence, understand their technical and operational needs and translate them into viable technical solutions.  Superior verbal and written skills, encompassing complete understanding of the English language with exceptional communication skills
  • Strong organizational and mentoring skills
  • Willingness to work as a contributing member of the team
  • Must participate in on-call rotation
  • Must be self-motivated, self-driven, and most of all see a project through to completion.
  • Ability to read, analyze and interpret technical requirements and technical procedures.  Ability to write reports, business correspondence, and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, customers, and the general public.
  • Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions.
  • Ability to move equipment weighing up to 70 lbs. to locations throughout the college
  • Reliable transportation – occasional travel to other CSN Campuses is required

 

Preferred Qualification:

  • Familiarity with Fortinet Solutions (Fortigate, FortiSIEM, FortiADC, and FortiAnalyzer)
  • Related Industry Certifications (MCSE: Core Infrastructure, VCP-DCV and or MCSE: Productivity)
  • Azure, GCP, and AWS Experience
  • Experience with scripting and system automation
  • Experience with Managing Two-Tier Microsoft Certificate Authority servers and certificate lifecycle management
  • Experience with EMC VNX SAN
  • Experience in a higher education environment
