Seeking an experienced and dedicated Learning Technologist to join our Information Technology team. This position reports to the Ellucian CIO and will work in very close coordination with leadership in Academic Affairs to provide expert support to faculty and instructional staff, as well as play a vital role within our Desktop Support / User Services team. The candidate will work to promote increased understanding of technology and support the use of technology at the University.


The Learning Technologist will be the primary support lead for the university’s course management and student retention tools (Moodle LMS, Pharos360, etc), instructional technologies, and supporting academic systems. He or she will act as a technical mentor and guide to faculty in the development and maintenance of their technology based curricula and will support them in applying technology to instructional processes. He or she will be the primary resource for faculty support, classroom and lab spaces, printing, and assisting faculty with general technical issues. The Learning Technologist will be responsible for developing and maintaining training programs, online tutorials, FAQs, and conducting workshops on a variety of topics of interest to the faculty in alignment with the University’s strategic objectives. He or she will also disseminate information through regular faculty communications and maintain the Information Technology knowledgebase on SharePoint 365.


The Learning Technologist contributes to the success of all technology initiatives by demonstrating professionalism, enthusiasm and superior customer service. The right individual is passionate about teaching and technology, has a strong work ethic, is driven to excellence, possesses superior problem solving ability, has rigorous attention to detail, and communicates clearly and effectively about technologies across a variety of constituencies. Excellent communications skills and a strong grasp of educational technology related applications are of critical importance. This individual thrives in a work environment that is agile and fast paced and successfully balance project-based efforts with support tasks. He or she will be expected to prepare and produce reports and associated documentation as needed, will participate in IT Governance, may sit on campus committees, focus groups, and project teams as assigned, will maintain current functional and technical knowledge and be a champion for best practices. He or she will also play a significant role in policy and process design efforts of the Ellucian team. Individual will perform other duties as assigned.


Experience and Expertise

  • Bachelor’s Degree from a four-year college or university in Information Technology, Instructional Design, or Education Technology related field (Master’s preferred)
  • 3-5 years of experience with professional development and training delivery, online teaching experience, and/or academic web development experience
  • Experience with instructional design theory, best practices in online education, learning theory, instruction delivery models, and metrics.
  • Extensive technical and functional experience with learning management, course delivery, online learning systems and related synchronous and asynchronous collaboration, communication, and presentation tools (Moodle and Office 365 experience required)
  • Proficiency needed with digital media authoring, production, and delivery for graphical and audio/video multimedia content to be used for training (ex - iMovie, Captivate, Articulate, Camtasia, Jing, Snaggit, Raptivity, Prezi…)
  • Experience desired with wide range of teaching tools (ex -Blackboard, Sakai, Voicethread, Desire2Learn, GoToMeeting, Adobe Connect, Panopto, DimDim, Echo360, Lectora, Wimba, Elluminate, Presenter, SMART Notebook, etc technologies)

  • Should possess a functional understanding about technology platforms, web standards, accessibility, usability, mobile technology, and sustainable technologies.
  • Should be knowledgeable about a variety of supporting and related technological topics that are commonly associated with the Academic Technology mission.
  • Experience with graphic design, report creation, web design, and web based content management tools, methods, and processes
  • Working knowledge of media technology, instructional design theory, and best practices in online education, learning theory, instruction delivery models, technology tools, technology infrastructure, quality control and metrics.
  • Proven ability to interact, consult and collaborate with higher education faculty, instructors, students and staff
