This position will provide direction, guidance, facilitation and execution of academic technology services. Qualified candidates must have exposure in planning, developing, implementing, and managing technology-based learning within the higher education industry. The candidate must have a solid understanding of best practices in blended and online education including quality matters, learning theory, curriculum management, delivery models, technology tools, infrastructure, educational quality control, marketing, governance, metrics and business planning.

 

The Instructional Designer will manage a team of academic professionals focused on securing, managing and delivering large, complex client engagements that evaluate, build technology-enhanced or fully online learning initiatives; the Instructional Designer’s initial assignment will be managing Instructional Technology Services at Delta State University. 

 

The Instructional Designer is expected to contribute to Ellucian’s Higher Education growth and development in a variety of ways, including:

 

Service/Engagement Management: Lead service/engagement planning and budgeting; mobilize and manage service teams; facilitate buy-in of proposed solutions from top management levels at the client; direct on-time, quality delivery of work products; manage engagement economics; manage engagement risk

 

Client Management: Assist in the management of day to day interactions with executive clients and sponsors; create and deliver monthly status reports and presentations

 

Business Development: Develop and maintain contact with top decision makers at key clients or prospects; participate and lead aspects of the proposal development process; contribute to the development of proposal pricing strategies

 

Practice Development: Develop practical solutions and methodologies; develop "whitepapers" and "point-of-view" documents; lead training; get published in industry periodicals

 

People Development: Perform role of counselor and coach; provide input and guidance into the staffing process; actively participate in staff recruitment and retention activities; provide leadership and support for remote and on-site delivery teams and staff

 

Required Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • 1+ years of experience managing academic technology, distance learning and/or online initiatives. 
  • Proven ability to set and achieve goals
  • Strong problem solving and troubleshooting skills with the ability to exercise mature judgment
  • Excellent interpersonal, project management and written and verbal communication skills
  • Well-developed customer service skills and proven ability to develop and sustain productive customer relationships
  • Knowledge of Instructure Canvas, Respondus, and other Instructional Technology tools
  • Proficiency with emerging technologies, such as podcasting, vodcasting, asynchronous/synchronous technologies and virtual worlds
  • Ability to plan and lead training for faculty utilizing technology

 

Desired Skills/Knowledge/Experience:

  • Web, Portal development experience
  • Certified in Quality Matters (Peer Reviewer or Master Reviewer)
  • Knowledge of multimedia instructional technologies and synchronous and asynchronous instructional strategies
  • Strong understanding of distance education delivery methods
  • Strong analytical and technical skills
  • A willingness/eagerness to mentor staff
  • Mastery of Adobe Acrobat, Presenter, Captivate, Course Management Systems, Audacity, Macromedia Flash, Photoshop or related applications
